Introduction to VeChain
VeChain (VeChainThor) is the blockchain network that powers Green Ambassador Challenge, built with sustainability and real-world adoption at its core.
Why does the blockchain matter?
In the previous page, we explained what a blockchain is: a shared, tamper-proof record book. But there are many different blockchains out there. Each one is a separate network with its own design, strengths, and community.
Green Ambassador Challenge runs on VeChain. That means your B3TR rewards, your transactions, and your wallet all operate on the VeChainThor network.
What is VeChain?
VeChain is a public blockchain platform founded with a focus on sustainability and real-world enterprise use. Unlike some blockchains that prioritize speculation, VeChain was designed from the start for practical applications: supply chain tracking, carbon credit management, and sustainability initiatives.
A few key facts:
- Founded in 2015 with a focus on enterprise adoption and real-world utility
- Energy-efficient by design: VeChain uses Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS), which requires far less energy than Bitcoin's Proof of Work model
- Home to VeBetterDAO: the sustainability-focused ecosystem that Green Ambassador Challenge is part of
- Supports smart contracts: programmable code that runs on the blockchain, enabling features like automatic reward distribution
You may see "VeChain" and "VeChainThor" used interchangeably. VeChain refers to the overall project and ecosystem. VeChainThor is the specific name of the blockchain network itself.
VeChain's tokens
VeChain has a two-token system:

| VET | The main token of the VeChain network. Used for value transfer and staking. |
| VTHO | The gas (fee) token. Used to pay for transactions on the network. |
You don't need to buy VET or VTHO to use Green Ambassador Challenge. But if you use a self-hosted wallet, holding VET can unlock additional reward multipliers.
