Governance and Proposals
VeBetterDAO is governed by its community: VOT3 holders shape the ecosystem's direction through voting and governance proposals.
How governance works
In a traditional organization, a board of directors or executive team makes key decisions. In VeBetterDAO, those decisions are made collectively by the community. Anyone holding VOT3 can participate in governance. No single entity controls the outcome.
This decentralized structure ensures that the ecosystem evolves based on what its participants, the people actually using sustainability apps, believe is best.
Types of participation
There are two main ways to participate in VeBetterDAO governance:
| Type | What it decides | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Allocation voting | How much B3TR funding each sustainability app receives | Weekly |
| Governance proposals | Ecosystem-wide rules, parameters, and strategic decisions | As needed |
Allocation voting
Allocation voting is the most common form of participation. VOT3 holders vote weekly to determine how B3TR is distributed to sustainability apps. For the full guide on how allocation rounds work and how to vote, see Voting and Allocation Rounds.
Governance proposals
Beyond weekly app voting, the community can propose and vote on broader changes to the ecosystem. Governance proposals cover decisions like:
- Adjusting treasury emission rates
- Adding or removing apps from the ecosystem
- Changing governance rules or voting parameters
- Approving ecosystem upgrades
These proposals go through a formal process: submission, community review, voting period, and execution (if approved).
Governance proposals are less frequent than allocation voting. Most users interact with VeBetterDAO primarily through weekly allocation rounds. You can participate in as much or as little governance as you want.
How governance connects to the Green Ambassador Challenge
The Green Ambassador Challenge's funding comes directly from the VeBetterDAO treasury, and the amount it receives each week depends on allocation votes. The more VOT3 votes the platform receives during an allocation round, the larger its share of the weekly B3TR emission. That funding is what pays out your rewards for completing challenges.
This means your vote has a tangible impact. When you vote for the Green Ambassador Challenge, you help keep the platform funded, which sustains the rewards pool for everyone. In return, you earn voting rewards simply for participating. It's a cycle that benefits both you and the community.
Governance proposals can also affect the platform indirectly. For example, a proposal to change treasury emission rates or adjust ecosystem rules could increase or decrease the total B3TR available to apps each week. Staying aware of active proposals helps you understand shifts in funding and how they might impact your rewards.
The easiest way to support the Green Ambassador Challenge is to vote every week. It only takes a few minutes and makes a real difference. To learn how, see Voting and Allocation Rounds.
Getting started with governance
You don't need to be a blockchain expert to participate. Here's the path:
- Earn B3TR by completing challenges on the Green Ambassador Challenge.
- Swap B3TR to VOT3 at a 1:1 ratio. See B3TR and VOT3 Tokens for details.
- Vote in allocation rounds at governance.vebetterdao.org, and earn voting rewards for doing so.
- Review governance proposals on the same portal when they are active.
Start with allocation voting. It takes just a few minutes each week, earns you B3TR rewards, and directly supports the Green Ambassador Challenge's funding. You can explore governance proposals at your own pace as you become more familiar with the ecosystem.
